LinguAR – Wortschatz to Go.

LinguAR is an augmented reality-based vocabulary learning system developed to explore new ways of making foreign language learning more interactive, engaging, and contextual. The project focuses on the acquisition of Spanish vocabulary and combines traditional vocabulary cards with digital AR elements to create a multisensory learning experience.

The system combines illustrations, animations, audio, and contextual learning tasks, allowing learners to engage with vocabulary through multiple forms of media. Instead of presenting words in isolation, LinguAR places vocabulary into meaningful contexts and uses interactive AR content to support a more varied learning experience.

The project was developed as part of my bachelor’s thesis and involved research, concept development, visual design, and evaluation. Based on a literature review, an online survey, and an expert interview, the learning system was designed and subsequently evaluated over a three-month period in an adult Spanish course.

The final concept consists of AR-enabled vocabulary cards that connect physical learning materials with digital content. The project explores how augmented reality can complement existing learning methods and how interactive and contextual elements can influence the overall learning experience.

LinguAR highlights the potential of augmented reality to complement conventional digital learning methods by creating a more interactive, varied, and contextual learning experience.
